Davis Heart and Lung Institute, The Ohio State University, Columbus OH
Paul J. Ford and Company designed the seven-story, 142,000 SF Davis Heart and Lung Institute for the Ohio State University. The building consists of a state of the art research and teaching facility for several majors and interdisciplinary research programs. In addition to its research space, the building has a 220-seat auditorium, three classrooms and six conference rooms located throughout the facility.
For its lateral stability, this research facility utilizes cast-in-place conventionally reinforced concrete moment frames supported on deep foundations that bear on bedrock. Each floor level is constructed of wide module joists and beams. A main focal point of the buidling is the central, full-height atrium which is crossed by a network of access bridges.
