All Children’s Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL – This ten-story hospital and adjoining medical office building is scheduled to open in late 2009. The complex contains over one million square feet of space.
Paul J. Ford and Company designed the new ten story, 670,000 SF All Children’s Hospital. This hospital is a state of the art facility with a 308 bed capacity housing emergency, radiology, oncology, and surgical services. As part of its emergency services, the structure is required to support an elevated roof top heliport pad.
The lateral load resisting system for the hospital consists of cast-in-place concrete beam and column moment frames providing protection from high wind storm events in this coastal zone. The floor levels above the basement utilize a conventionally reinforced concrete wide module joist and beam system. A deep drilled pier foundation system supports the building. In order to accommodate a loading dock area in the basement, tall cantilevered concrete retaining walls were constructed around the perimeter. Structural challenges on the project included curved, cantilevered concrete canopies, a “special effect” steel canopy and two story atrium spaces.
